At EY, you'll have the chance to build a career as unique as you are, with the global scale, support, inclusive culture and technology to become the best version of you.Join us and build an exceptional experience for yourself and shape the future with confidence!The OpportunityThe Solution Architect in Smart Cities competency will be a part of smart city strategy and execution consulting team and work alongside with strategy consultants towards strategizing, piloting and leading the design of integrated digital and technology solutions that enable city-wide transformation, enhance citizen experiences, and achieve client objectives across domains such as mobility, energy, water, waste, security, environment, facility management and urban services. This role bridges strategy, business needs, and technical execution to ensure solutions are feasible, scalable, and aligned with smart city vision of our clients.Your key responsibilitiesAs a Smart City Solution Architect, you will collaborate with strategy teams to identify and prioritize use cases, translating business objectives into actionable technology solutions. You will lead the design of end-to-end architectures across application, data, integration, IoT, and infrastructure layers, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards. Your role includes engaging with client stakeholders to assess existing systems, conducting vendor assessments, and preparing solution blueprints and technical deliverables. You will also support pilot deployments, stay current on emerging technologies, contribute to proposals and presentations, and mentor junior consultants to build internal capabilities.To qualify for the role, you must have:
  • A bachelor's degree in Computer science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related fields from a top-ranking university.
  • At least 6-8 years of experience in IT or digital solution architecture, with at least 3-5 years in smart cities, districts, urban innovation, or related domains.
  • Demonstrated experience designing solutions across multiple smart city domains (e.g. mobility, utilities, security, environment, energy)
  • Strong knowledge of smart city and IoT platforms, AI/ML, digital twin, cloud architectures (Azure, AWS, GCP), data integration, analytics, and urban ICT infrastructure
  • Familiarity with smart city frameworks (e.g. ISO 37120/37122/37123, ITU-T standards) and urban technology ecosystems
  • Strong track record in architecting complex, multi-vendor urban technology ecosystems or public infrastructure platforms
  • Proficiency in the English and Arabic language, including the ability to listen, understand, read and communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, in a professional environment.
  • Effective organization, time management and problem-solving skills with the ability to work under pressure and adhere to project deadlines.
  • Willingness and ability to travel within the MENA region, when necessary (approximately 25-50% of time).
Ideally, you'll also have:
  • Masters degree from a top tier engineering school.
  • Certifications such as TOGAF, Azure/AWS Architect, or Smart Cities Practitioner
  • Prior strategy consulting or in-house strategy experience with a particular focus on client advisory or strategic planning within a professional services or similar environment.
  • Excellent presentation, stakeholder management, problem solving, project management, facilitation and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Full fluency in Arabic, both written and spoken.
