- Conduct and document laboratory testing (molecular, serological, virus isolation) for surveillance and research studies.
- Enter test data into databases, perform statistical analysis, and prepare scientific reports.
- Support and implement external quality assurance (EQA) programs across partner laboratories.
- Perform diagnostic testing on specimens from diverse projects and regions.
- Coordinate and conduct refresher and on-site training for surveillance procedures, equipment use, safety, biosafety, and specimen handling.
- Conduct follow-up site visits to assess laboratory performance and ensure surveillance protocol adherence.
- Review and report testing data regularly (weekly/monthly) to the Principal Investigator (PI) to evaluate study progress.
- Oversee procurement of laboratory supplies, reagents, and consumables, and manage inventory systems.
- Conduct scientific literature reviews and contribute to proposal development, research protocols, and reports.
- Design and monitor laboratory experiments, draft SOPs, analyze results, and advise on study modifications.
- Lead molecular epidemiology studies of viral pathogens, including genetic and antigenic characterization, DNA sequencing, epitope prediction, and phylogenetic analysis.
- Provide molecular biology and lab techniques training to NAMRU and external collaborators.
- Assist with laboratory setup and capacity building efforts at partner sites within and outside Egypt.
- Analytical and investigative skills.
- Training management skills.
- Doctor of medicine and masters in microbiology.
- Minimum 7 years of experience and practice in clinical and public health microbiology and its subspecialties.
- 4 years of experience in healthcare associated infection and antimicrobial resistance surveillance in developing countries of the EM region.
- Fluency in Arabic and English.
- Travel Requirements: Travel may include Djibouti, Jordan, Nigeria, and other countries in Africa and the Middle East, depending on research requirements.
- Must be a US citizen.
