As experts in healthcare IT experts, Apex is committed to building systems for healthcare organizations to seamlessly communicate and exchange data across different systems and devices.Summary:The Medical Research Advisor – Infection Control will provide senior-level scientific and operational support to NAMRU-EURAFCENT’s Viral and Zoonotic Diseases Research Program (VZDRP). This role focuses on leading infection control and disease surveillance initiatives across Egypt, the Eastern Mediterranean Region, and select West African countries. The Advisor will ensure high-quality implementation of bio-surveillance activities, laboratory diagnostics, external quality assurance programs, and training efforts while coordinating closely with local collaborators and the NAMRU-EURAFCENT principal investigator (PI).The work under this contract will be performed at the U.S. Naval Medical Research Unit EURAFCENT offices in Cairo, Egypt, or at other designated locations in special circumstances. Responsibilities:Essential Job Functions:

Enter laboratory data into databases, conduct analysis, and prepare scientific reports.
Design, establish, and perform a variety of clinical and research laboratory tests including molecular diagnostics, serology, and virus isolation.
Implement and support infection control and surveillance programs focused on healthcare-associated infections and antimicrobial resistance.
Coordinate bio-surveillance efforts across multiple sites within and outside Egypt.
Develop and monitor standard operating procedures (SOPs); ensure adherence to biosafety protocols.
Review laboratory data monthly from collaborating sites; prepare and submit weekly/monthly progress reports.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills, including complex scheduling and demonstrated experience in manuscript writing and publishing.
Ability to coordinate various groups and to conduct organized training program.
Ability to work on a team and with groups of collaborators.
Experience in training and curriculum development is essential.
Excellent communication and education skills.
Familiarity with word processing is essential (Microsoft word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
Fluency in English and Arabic is required.
Good math skills and the ability to perform data management including statistical analysis with high degree of accuracy is preferable.

Minimum Qualifications:

MD or MSc. degree in Medicine or biological sciences.
A minimum of 15 years’ experience working in the area of infection control, and surveillance of infectious diseases, establishing surveillance systems of healthcare associated infections, and antimicrobial resistance, in developing countries in the Eastern Mediterranean Region.
A minimum of 2 years’ experience working in project management.
Travel Requirements: Travel may include Djibouti, Jordan, Nigeria, and other countries in Africa and the Middle East, depending on research requirements.
Must be a US citizen.
