As experts in healthcare IT experts, Apex is committed to building systems for healthcare organizations to seamlessly communicate and exchange data across different systems and devices.Summary:The Molecular Biology Specialist will support its Vector Biology Research Program (VBRP). This program conducts research in collaboration with institutes in Nigeria, Ghana, Jordan, Djibouti, and other partner nations. The focus is on studying arthropod vectors involved in the transmission of pathogens causing acute febrile illnesses, understanding their geographic and environmental distribution, and developing data to support vector control strategies.The work under this contract will be performed at the U.S. Naval Medical Research Unit EURAFCENT offices in Cairo, Egypt, or at other designated locations in special circumstances. Responsibilities:Essential Job Functions:

Conduct molecular biology research to identify and characterize pathogens in arthropod vectors.
Apply advanced molecular techniques including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, and sequencing.
Perform phylogenetic analysis and bioinformatics work on genome and protein sequences.
Manage and maintain laboratory equipment and ensure quality control in all molecular biology processes.
Navigate and submit sequence data to public databases such as GenBank and GISAID.
Analyze, interpret, and report molecular and genomic data to support the program’s research goals.
Support entomological field studies by providing molecular diagnostics and pathogen detection expertise.
Collaborate with local and international research partners to ensure the successful execution of project objectives.
Prepare technical reports, manuscripts, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
Maintain laboratory records in accordance with scientific and regulatory standards.

Qualifications:Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

Shall have in-depth knowledge of molecular biology methodologies and knowledge of the theoretical aspects of biochemistry and genomics.
Adequate knowledge of a wide array of basic and advanced tools and equipment used in biomedical research.
Excellent knowledge of computers, software programs (phylogenetic analysis, analysis of genome and protein sequences), and proficiency in navigating and submitting to online DNA databases like GenBank and GISAID.
Professional knowledge of biomedical research with emphasis in vectors and vector-borne infectious diseases.
Excellent working knowledge of computer programs such as Excel, Word and Power Point, and basic knowledge of statistical programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

PhD Degree in Molecular Biology/Biochemistry.
At least 7 years of experience working in a biomedical research laboratory.
Language Proficiency: Level III (as defined by the U.S. Department of State), good command of verbal and written English and Arabic.
Travel Requirements: Travel may include Djibouti, Jordan, Nigeria, and other countries in Africa and the Middle East, depending on research requirements.
Must be a US citizen.
